Blog Post 21: Concept 3 - Design Review 2

Here is the second design review for Concept 3:

Change log:

• The connecting arm for the body gripper has been remodelled, better suited to endure the torsional force exerted by the jar lid with a triangular support structure.

• FEA has been carried out on each component and excess material (12.4%) has been removed.

• The handle has been redesigned with a smaller profile, it is also much rounder.

• A detachable, more ergonomic grip has been added featuring a spring-loaded bottle-opening tool.

• Torsional springs have been added to each end of the gear dowel.

• Compression springs have been added to the middle section to allow the gripper to clamp onto jar lids.

To do:

• Further FEA to determine where more material can be eliminated so that the design conforms with the maximum mass stated in the PDS.
