Here are the optimised components I made from the first round of FEA for my second design concept and the results from further FEA:


Gripper:


Above you can see the results collected from a second round of FEA I carried out on the enhanced gripper. Modifications I have made to this design since its preliminary testing include the addition of material to the spring mounts, which previously exhibited points of material failure. The forces applied in this test are identical to those seen in the gripper’s first round of FEA and it is clear from the results that any previously identified areas of concern have now been amended. Moving forward, the removal of obsolete material is the best course of action for this component given it has now been proven that it is able to tolerate working conditions without risking failure.


Bottom Section:


The results above show the material reduction across the grippers and traction pads (14%) that I have applied since the preliminary FEA. you can see that these modifications are not adversely affecting the structural integrity of the rotating bottom assembly when the same simulated forces are applied.
